AI Optimization
Why publishing more is usually the wrong move
The instinctive response to low AI visibility, the one that most reliably fails, and the specific situations where it is actually right.
The reflex
A business discovers it is not being named and concludes it needs more content. It is the intuitive response, it is what most of the industry sells, and it is usually a misdiagnosis.
Publishing addresses exactly one failure: not having said something that needed saying. If the actual problem is that nothing is being read, that what is read is unclear, or that nothing independent supports it, more pages change nothing and can make things worse.
How more pages actively hurt
Signal splitting. Nine pages approaching the same subject give a system nine partial answers and no canonical one. One clear page outperforms nine overlapping approximations, and consolidating frequently improves things without a word being written.
Pattern similarity. Regular publication of pages that each add little resembles content produced at scale for its own sake, because it is structurally identical to it.
Dilution of consistency. Every new page is another place for the description to drift. Volume produced quickly is the most common source of the contradictions that lower confidence.
Attention displacement. The effort spent producing twelve articles is effort not spent on the corroboration gap, which is usually the actual constraint.
Diagnose before publishing. If retrieval is failing, content is invisible. If comprehension is failing, more content encodes the confusion. If corroboration is the gap, publishing on your own site cannot address it by definition, because corroboration is what other people say.
When publishing is genuinely the answer
A real question in your field has no good canonical answer anywhere. Writing the definitive one is legitimate AI optimization and it is durable.
You have evidence nobody else has. Original data, a real result, a method you actually use. This is the strongest reason and the rarest.
Something true about the business is not stated anywhere. A service, a specialism, a limit on who you serve.
An existing page is unclear. Rewriting is publishing, and it is the highest-return kind.
The test before writing anything
What does this page say that no page anywhere already says well? If the honest answer is nothing, the page will not claim ground. It will occupy space on your own site and split a signal you already had.
