AI harness crash course

Summary

Google Cloud Tech published a short video course on the software layer that surrounds a coding model: the harness that reads files, runs tests, calls tools, and pauses for approval before risky steps. The course follows a single task through four parts of harness design: context and memory, tools and execution flow, runtime security and privacy, and evaluation.

A companion page and codelabs walk through each part. The material covers session versus state, long-term memory, Python functions and MCP servers as tools, graph workflows with parallel checks and retry limits, sandboxed execution, prompt injection handling, and a mix of deterministic checks, an LLM judge, and human review for evaluation.

Why it matters

Agents increasingly decide what a brand looks like by fetching pages, calling tools, and storing what they learn, and the harness sets the rules for that process. The course says tool output and fetched content should be treated as untrusted data and that long-term memory carries preferences into later conversations. For anyone trying to get found or recommended by AI, this means two things. Content that tries to instruct an agent is likely to be filtered out rather than obeyed. Clear, accurate information that an agent retrieves once may also persist in memory and shape later answers. Knowing how harnesses handle context, tools, and memory helps explain why some sources get used and others get ignored.

AIOTruth judgment

The item scores 7.5. Evidence scores 10 and the status is Confirmed because the video, the companion site, and Google's ADK and Memory Bank documentation all describe the same concepts. Usefulness scores 9 because the course lays out concrete design patterns a builder can apply directly. Originality scores 7: the framing into four parts is clear, but the individual ideas, such as sandboxing and LLM judges, are established practice. Relevance scores 4 because the course is aimed at developers building agents, not at brands managing how AI systems represent them, so its link to discovery is indirect. AIOTruth did not reproduce the demonstration.
